Job Description
Tennessee State University Department of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor. This is a 9 month, tenure track position.
Job duties:
Music technologist, primarily working and teaching in the Commercial Music area of the Department of Music, and the Music Education area as needed.
Primary Teaching: Studio Recording, Live Sound, Audio for Video, Music and Technology, and Commercial Music Ensemble.
Secondary Teaching: ability to teach music theory, instrumental or vocal applied lessons, and/or general music education is desirable.
Additional Responsibilities:
maintaining departmental music technology/piano lab and website;
developing and maintaining relationships with local recording facilities, audio engineers and producers.
Additional Desirable Experience:
online course development, delivery, and distance education;
graphic media;
acquisition and practice of formal teaching methodologies and classroom management, and of rehearsing student ensembles.
Other duties as assigned. Position reports directly to the Coordinator of Commercial Music.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in the field of Music and Doctorate in Music or related Technology field from accredited institutions required. ABD with conferral prior to contract beginning date also considered. Significant experience required in:
professional recording studio, including experience with audio-for-video and post- production;
university-level music technology instruction;
professional music software such as Pro Tools and Logic.
Ability to teach concepts and practices of recording and engineering, as well as of production and content creation. Evidence of current musical performances, as well as current sound recording projects. Must have experience and interest in teaching diverse students, as well as familiarity with and appreciation for different genres of music.
