Overview
Under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, the Parks Facilities/Carpenter Worker performs routine maintenance repairs of buildings and grounds. The worker will assist with maintenance, remodeling, and new construction of buildings, dugouts, shelters, restrooms, pole barns and playgrounds as needed. Special tasks such as event setup and cleanup or emergency response may be part of the duties of the employee as well.

  • Read and follow blueprints and interpret building plans for assigned construction projects.
  • Measure, cut/shape wood, metal, masonry, plastic and concrete and other materials.
  • Construct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes.
  • Inspect, repair and replace damaged framework or other structures as needed.
  • Serve as a Lead worker on various parks maintenance tasks.
  • Instruct and direct other construction laborers as needed.
  • Build wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, ramps and steps
  • Calculate construction materials for framing, sheeting, flooring, roofing, and concrete work.
  • Use levels and transits and set benchmarks, corners and elevations.
  • Finish walls, floors, doors, and trim.
  • Sand and paint walls, floors, doors, and other structures.
  • Operates tractors, mowers, loaders, skid steer loaders, vehicles, golf carts and lifts.
  • Operate various hand tools, ladders, power tools and other construction equipment.
  • Performs mowing and general parks maintenance as needed.
  • Assists with event set-up and break-down including moving furniture, setting up displays, tables and chairs and ensuring proper staging for events.
  • Assists in forming and pouring sidewalks, slabs and footings.
  • Builds framing, footers, walls, bridges, and other new construction.
  • Follows work request procedures, completing documentation for work performed, creates estimates for supplies and order when needed.
  • Adheres to safety regulations and identifies potential hazards to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate of GED equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and repair procedures and techniques used in parks or grounds maintenance preferred.
  • Valid State of Kentucky Driver's license or ability to obtain one

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lateral mobility over various terrains, ability to climb, lift items above head, stoop, bend, squat, sort, kneel, reach to overhead levels, hold and/or grip hand tools. Ability to tolerate various weather conditions as required. Ability to push and pull to 75 lbs. unassisted. The employee must maintain the physical requirements to successfully perform the job duties.

Pay: $ $20.00 per hour
