About The Role
We are seeking experienced Frontend Software Engineers to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in defining robust front-end architecture patterns, leading the development of reusable and well-abstracted components, and collaborating across multiple teams to accelerate development velocity. The ideal candidate is an accomplished engineer with deep expertise in frontend technologies who can work effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results. This is a unique opportunity to join Chalk as an early employee, where you will have a significant impact on our product and company growth. You will be tackling challenging engineering problems with a high degree of autonomy and ownership, contributing directly to the success of our platform.
Our team works in-person Monday through Friday at our San Francisco office. Currently, we do not offer remote or hybrid work options. We are looking for software engineers comfortable solving business problems across all layers of the software stack, with a focus on frontend development. At Chalk, we prioritize building reliable, high-performance data processing systems that enhance developer experience and scale efficiently. The role requires building compelling user interfaces for web and command-line surfaces, while also understanding and contributing to complex systems involving compilers, query planners, and distributed architectures.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 2+ years of professional software engineering experience. A strong foundation in computer science fundamentals is essential, with practical experience in building and maintaining real-world applications. Deep technical knowledge of frontend technologies, design patterns, and best practices is required, along with a solid understanding of backend systems to facilitate collaboration across the entire tech stack. An eye for high-quality user experience and a proven ability to learn new concepts quickly are important. Candidates should demonstrate the capacity to work independently, make pragmatic tradeoffs aligned with business outcomes, and possess excellent communication skills. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field is expected.
