Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer – BMS to lead the end-to-end electrical design and development of automotive Battery Management Systems. This role involves high-voltage battery design, hardware development, safety compliance, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable and high-performance energy storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end electrical design of automotive Battery Management Systems (BMS), including high-voltage monitoring, cell balancing, protection circuits, and communication interfaces (CAN, LIN, SPI, etc.).
  • Define and document the BMS electrical architecture in alignment with vehicle system requirements and functional safety goals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define system-level and performance requirements.
  • Drive hardware development for BMS components, including PCBs, microcontrollers, analog and digital circuits, and sensors.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, evaluate component selection, and work closely with PCB layout teams to ensure design reliability and functionality.
  • Build, test, and validate hardware prototypes; ensure compliance with performance and safety specifications and implement design improvements.
  • Design and integrate monitoring circuits and sensors for voltage, current, temperature, and state-of-charge measurements.
  • Ensure hardware designs comply with applicable safety and industry standards such as ISO 26262 and IEC 62133; perform safety analysis.
  • Partner with software, systems, and test engineering teams to integrate BMS hardware into the overall energy storage system.
  • Develop comprehensive design documentation including specifications, test plans, DFMEA, WCCA, and test reports.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related issues to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in battery and automotive electronics.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable federal and state regulations, as well as internal processes and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and maintain predictable, reliable attendance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong experience in Battery Management System (BMS) hardware design and high-voltage battery systems.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, and sensor integration.
  • Experience with battery technologies, battery safety, and automotive industry standards.
  • Familiarity with CAN, LIN, SPI, and automotive communication protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping, testing, and validation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong documentation and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
