What is the Opportunity?

Group Risk Management (GRM) is responsible for providing independent and objective oversight of the management of significant risks arising from RBC's businesses and operations, supported by comprehensive risk management frameworks, policies and practices, robust risk management systems, and experienced professionals. The GRM Wealth Management team provides risk oversight, portfolio management, and assessment of both financial and non-financial risk for RBC legal entities within the Wealth Management business. This includes but not limited to review of bespoke transaction risk, credit risk adjudication, and operational risks.
The Associate Director (AD), Wealth Management Risk Analytics sits at the intersection of financial engineering, software development, and risk oversight. You will perform a key role in leading the development of risk data transformation, analysis tools and processes while supporting risk oversight of financial risk (credit, market, liquidity and interest rate risk) through risk analysis and dashboarding.

What will you do?

Risk Analytics & Development

  • Lead the development and innovation of risk analytic infrastructure working closely with the business, IT and regional teams to enhance the existing analytical risk metrics, tools and reports.

  • Develop, produce and analyze interactive dashboards to communicate complex risk metrics to executive level stakeholders and operational committees.

  • Maintain close contact with the business, regional teams and other Group Risk Management units (GRM) regarding market conditions, operating environment, risk positions, to understand core business goals and help achieve results through a data driven approach

  • Continuously research and integrate machine learning (ML) or AI techniques to improve risk triggers, scorecards

Risk Oversight & Analysis

  • Pro-actively investigate risks and perform deep dives to provide clear and comprehensive analysis to senior management on risk trends and concerns to influence decision making at senior leadership levels

  • Contribute to the development of credit policies and establishing risk tolerance limits in conjunction with the business and other risk teams ensuring policies/limits remain current, comprehensive and clearly understood by all business partners.

  • Facilitate business growth through the review and assessment of new products, trading strategies or significant deals ensuring the risks are in line with risk tolerance while recommending and implementing appropriate risk controls.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Highly proficient with Python, SQL, and Excel

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in an analytical or quantitative risk control function (eg business analytics, consulting, market risk, credit risk).

  • Experience with complex, large-scale relational databases with an aptitude to adapt and implement additional technical applications or tools.

  • Strong critical thinker with a passion for solving complex problems.

  • Proven organizational skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.

Nice-to-have

  • Professional experience building tools, dashboards, and reports using Power BI, Tableau, VBA.

  • Superior communication skills for presenting data to senior leadership.

  • MBA, MA, MS or equivalent with emphasis in finance, risk management, data science, or a quantitative discipline is preferred.
