Performs clinical dental services for clients of the dental clinic which include examinations and treatment planning, oral cancer screenings, amalgam and composite restorations, pit and fissure sealants, bonded restorations, extractions, root canal therapy, minor oral surgery, periodontal treatments, full and partial denture construction, fixed prosthodontics and other required procedures in the scope of general family dentistry. Instructs clients in proper practices of dental hygiene and in procedures pertinent to provided treatments. Responds to inquiries by clients and staff on dental health and on provided treatments. Supervises and directs staff including dental hygienists, therapists, and assistants. Performs related duties and other tasks as required most especially outreach and patient education. Provides comprehensive, culturally appropriate oral health care holistically centered with emphasis on team and patient positive experience. Embraces minimally invasive dentistry philosophy and the most vulnerable of our patients: pediatric and elderly. The dentist will report to the Dental Director.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
* Diagnosing oral diseases.
* Promoting oral health and disease prevention.
* Creating treatment plans to maintain or restore the oral health of their patients.
* Interpreting x-rays and diagnostic tests.
* Performing dental procedures, such as extractions, root canals, and filling cavities.
* Recognizing and correcting bite issues and overcrowding.
* Applying helpful agents to teeth, such as sealants or whiteners.
* Prescribing medications for dental problems, such as pain medications or antibiotics.
* Giving clients sedatives or anesthesia prior to administering treatments.
* Ordering diagnostic measures, such as x-rays, models, etc.
* Using tools, such as drills, probes, brushes, or mirrors, to examine and treat teeth and mouth.
* Keeping records and coding relating to the oral health of patients and the treatments given to them.
* Managing and communicating with other staff members to provide care to patients.
* Ensuring the safe administration of anesthetics.
* Monitoring growth and development of the teeth and jaws.
* Performing surgical procedures on the teeth, bone and soft tissues of the oral cavity.
* Oversight of all personnel critical to ensuring safe and effective oral care; directing professional and auxiliary staff during treatment of clients.
* Care beyond patients' teeth and gums but also the muscles of the head, neck and jaw, the tongue, salivary glands, the nervous system of the head and neck and overall health.
* Community outreach and Education including providing preventive services outside the clinic in school-based settings and Dental supported events (i.e. distribution days, youth fairs, home visits, and Head start / daycare visits).
* Teaching, precepting and offering shadow experiences for dental student providers
*Minimum Qualifications:*
* Unrestricted State license to practice dentistry AND a Swinomish Dental Provider License.
* Current CPR (BLS) certifications.
* NPI and DEA registrations.
* Graduation from an accredited dental school with a DDS or DMD degree.
* Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges and credentialed in accordance with the clinic’s credentialing policies.
* Commitment to providing culturally appropriate services.
* Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of modern dentistry and of prevention of dental diseases.
* Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to dentistry and to public dental health.
* Skill in performance of dental treatments.
* Skills in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
* Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other tribal employees, dental clinic clients and the general public.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $173,500.00 - $218,400.00 per year
