Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week

Position Summary

ACE of NEPA is looking for a warm, enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to support our Early Learning classrooms. Working alongside a Lead Teacher, you will help facilitate hands-on learning experiences designed to nurture the cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development of children ages 3–5. This role actively supports Head Start standards and emphasizes strong relationships with families, safe classroom practices, and intentional teaching strategies.

In this role, you will help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment, track children's progress, assist with daily routines, and engage with families through home visits and communication updates.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support daily routines, transitions, and structured activities that encourage active exploration and learning
  • Work with the Lead Teacher to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum that honors children's cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and inviting classroom space
  • Serve meals and snacks in accordance with nutrition guidelines; welcome parents and volunteers as appropriate
  • Step into the Lead Teacher role when needed and take part in team planning and training
  • Observe, document, and enter child progress information into agency-approved systems (e.g., COPA)
  • Promote positive behavior and social-emotional growth using supportive strategies
  • Participate in home visits, parent conversations, and other family engagement activities
  • Uphold confidentiality and follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Work with specialists and program leadership to assist children with developmental or behavioral needs
  • Support school readiness goals and contribute to family involvement initiatives
  • Assist with recruiting efforts for early learning programs

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education

OR

  • Associate/Bachelor's degree in another field plus at least 12 ECE credits or a current CDA

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance
  • Basic computer skills (email, data entry, Microsoft Office, Google Drive)
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
  • Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds is preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Work Environment & Physical Expectations

  • Frequent interaction with young children in a busy classroom setting
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, bend, or squat throughout the day
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs
  • Possible exposure to childhood illnesses and bodily fluids
  • Local travel for home visits or program events may be required
