The Destination Experience Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Tourism Jasper Visitor Experience Centre (VEC) team and providing exceptional customer service to visitors. The Destination Experience Coordinator will actively promote accommodations, attractions, and experiences in and surrounding Jasper to enhance visitor trips and encourage visitors to extend their stay. This role will also oversee recruitment, onboarding, and training for the VEC team.

Tourism Jasper is the official marketing organization of Jasper and Jasper National Park, Canada's base of adventure. As the keepers of the Jasper brand, our role is to present Jasper as it really is an awe-inspiring and authentic Rocky Mountain destination entry point of Canada's most epic adventures. It is from this point that the greatest personal expeditions begin, where explorers and wanderers from around the world collect to enjoy the activities, accommodations, restaurants, and business of the town of Jasper, before taking on the real Canadian Rockies of Jasper National Park.

Primary Responsibilities

Visitor Experience Centre Operations:

  • Oversee the hiring, onboarding, and training of VEC staff.
  • Oversee scheduling, time sheets, and time off of the VEC Staff.
  • Provide back-up coverage for VEC staff as required.
  • Supervise the daily on-site Tourism Jasper staff at the VEC, including coaching, recognition, appreciation and performance management.
  • Fostering a team culture of going above and beyond for visitors in every interaction, being the local experts, and consistently providing friendly, engaging and helpful assistance.
  • Ensure visitor inquiries are handled in a timely manner.
  • Promote accommodation, attractions, restaurants, retail and experiences throughout Jasper. Providing personalized recommendations to visitors and making direct bookings when possible.
  • Act as the main point of contact between Tourism Jasper and Parks Canada Visitor Information Centre Staff.
  • Participate in Business and Destination Development meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Destination Development Programs:

  • Oversee and administer the Jasper Ambassador Program, ensuring accuracy, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring high front-line staff engagement in enrolment and completion.
  • Grow the Jasper Ambassador program as the destination evolves. Provide in-person training to front-line staff on request.
  • Maintain Guide Geek, ensuring accuracy and a smooth Visitor Experience when using this tool.
  • Bandwagon Champion, updating Jasper the Bear Scavenger Hunt, the VIP Pass and creating new challenges.
  • Ensure stakeholder booking platforms are kept up to date, such as Farharbour, Open Table, etc.
  • Track Park Pass sales and complete monthly reconciliation.
  • Support the Destination Development Team with Signature and Supported events

Qualifications

  •  Post-secondary education in Tourism or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in the tourism or hospitality industry.
  • Supervisory experience in a customer service environment (asset).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to develop, implement, report, and oversee a financial budget.
  • Exceptional public relations skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Commitment to teamwork and client service.
  • Knowledge of Tourism Jasper products.
  • Self-motivated with a result-driven attitude.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages (asset).

Physical aspects of the position (Include but are not limited to):

  • Light physical work (bending, reaching, carrying light items, walking, and standing)

This position is based in Jasper, Alberta. 

Hours of work: 40 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.
