Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Academic Governance and Planning Systems, you will be part of a dynamic, collaborative and innovative team focused on delivering transformational technology solutions to the University in the areas of degree auditing, curriculum governance, management and publication, and supporting business processes related to the collection, management and dissemination of degree, program and course offerings. Through your efforts in this position, you will directly help improve the University's curricular management and student systems for students, staff, faculty and course instructors.
As a senior information system analyst, you will be directly engaged in the support, improvement, and implementation of enterprise student and curricular systems. You will work in cross-functional teams with developers, analysts and stakeholders on existing and new products using established methodologies, including Agile processes. You will participate in all stages of the product life cycle including design, development, testing, implementation and end-user training and support. You will participate in and co-ordinate project components to improve processes for effective and efficient service management. You will be engaged with product development teams and stakeholders in the implementation of new products or procedures as opportunities for technical or business modernization presents itself. You will work with business stakeholders and end-users on the business process mapping, workflows and re-design in support of identifying,developing or implementing appropriate technical solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with technical specialists to resolve end-user issues
  • Planning the implementation of new business systems and business processes
  • Reconciling business requirements with information architecture needs for highly complex system integration
  • Co-ordinating support and training activities
  • Checking that user documentation and training plans are in place for new applications and functionality
  • Planning and implementing components of IT related projects
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years applying business analysis practices, preferably in Information Technology or in support of Teaching and Learning within a post-secondary educational institution
  • Minimum five years working with or supporting enterprise-level course or curriculum applications (e.g. course management, course delivery, curriculum management, syllabi management, timetable management).
  • Minimum three years working as a business analyst on Information technology projects performing requirements gathering, analysis and testing
  • Experience coordinating projects with a range of stakeholders; ability to identify dependencies, risk and priorities
  • Experience in system/service deployment and support
  • Experience developing and delivering training on information systems and processes to a variety of audiences and in a variety of formats
  • Experience writing and disseminating technical or procedural specifications and client facing documentation
  • Experience with project and issue tracking software (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps)
  • Experience creating operational roadmaps
  • Familiarity with University academic and IT policies; familiarity with related legislation
  • Ability to interpret business requirements and articulate them into models and concepts; ability to identify up and downstream dependencies and risks
  • Ability to use of business analysis practices and tools (e.g. MS Visio, LucidChart, PowerBI, MS Excel Pivot tables)
  • Demonstrated superior client service skills
  • Ability to communicate in a variety of styles and voices for a range of audiences
  • Ability to build and maintain close working relationships with all levels of staff and internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective and strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable documenting, speaking to, and making presentations on system features, technical changes, complex concepts and procedures, etc.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience with the Microsoft SharePoint
  • Experience with Service Now or other service support and ticketing applications
  • Experience with Agile development practices (e.g. Scrum and Kanban)
  • Experience with testing protocols and procedures
  • Experience working with data, including writing and executing queries and procedures in sql, report formatting and creation, and record creation
  • Understanding of the evolving nature of higher education
