We are seeking a passionate and skilled Baker/Pastry Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate is experienced in baking croissants, laminated pastries, and a variety of cookies, breads, and cakes, and is excited to experiment with new flavours, textures, and ingredients through research and development (R&D).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, breads, cookies, and desserts in line with Yaya's Kitchen's unique menu offerings.
  • Master the art of laminated dough, including croissants and other layered pastries.
  • Experiment with heritage ingredients (e.g., baobab, sorrel, plantains, cassava, tamarind, hibiscus) to create innovative baked goods.
  • Work closely with the culinary team to develop seasonal specials and new menu items.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, consistency, and presentation in all baked goods.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation standards to ensure a clean and organized kitchen.
  • Monitor inventory and ingredient sourcing to maintain a well-stocked and efficient kitchen.
  • Collaborate on R&D initiatives to refine recipes, introduce new techniques, and push culinary boundaries.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Baker or Pastry Chef or with Pastry & Baking with skill in croissant and laminated pastry production.
  • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, flavour pairings, and ingredient functionality.
  • Willingness to explore and integrate new ingredients into traditional baking methods.
  • Creative mindset with a passion for innovation and research in pastry development.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
  • Culinary diploma or formal training in pastry arts is preferred but not required if equivalent experience is demonstrated.
