Position Summary
The Director provides strategic leadership, client management, and operational oversight for consulting engagements that support public-sector agencies. This role drives project delivery excellence, business development, and team growth while ensuring that services align with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and client outcomes. The Director acts as a senior advisor to clients, guiding initiatives that strengthen service delivery systems across the public service domains.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Strategic Leadership & Practice Management
- Provide strategic direction to the consulting practice, including service line development, resource planning, and long-term growth initiatives.
- Establish and maintain methodologies, quality standards, and performance metrics that support consistent delivery excellence.
- Monitor regulatory and policy trends in federal, state, and local systems to inform firm strategy and service offerings.
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive-level clients within state and county agencies.
- Lead multi-stakeholder engagements, facilitating decision-making and driving system-level improvements.
- Proactively identify opportunities to add value and expand client relationships.
Project Delivery & Oversight
- Oversee the successful execution of complex consulting projects related to program evaluation, system transformation, organizational design, technology modernization, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage project budgets, timelines, scopes, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure deliverables are of high quality, actionable, and aligned with client objectives.
Business Development
- Lead proposal development, solution design, and pricing for new opportunities in the HHS sector.
- Represent the firm at conferences, industry events, and stakeholder forums.
- Build strategic partnerships with vendors, associations, and policy groups to support practice growth.
Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop consulting staff, including Managers, Senior and Principal Consultants, and Analysts.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and learning-focused team culture.
- Support recruitment efforts and workforce planning to meet engagement needs.
Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Health Services, Behavioral Health, or a related human services discipline or a Juris Doctor (JD) preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in consulting, public-sector management, or leadership roles within state or local government agencies.
- Proven track record managing complex, multi-year projects.
- Experience working with government agencies (state, county, federal) highly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in business development and client relationship management.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to lead diverse teams and manage change in dynamic environments.
- Financial acumen and experience with budgeting, forecasting, and contract management.
Working Conditions
- Ability to travel up to 10% as needed for client engagements and business development.
- May work across multiple projects in a fast-paced consultant environment.
