We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our team. Vanguard Healthcare Solutions we are a British, privately owned, international clinical services and infrastructure provider supporting healthcare clients across the UK and worldwide. Our purpose-designed and built modular and mobile facilities provide our clients with new or replacement Operating Theatres, Wards, Endoscopy Suites and Decontamination and diagnostic units. We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to support our Mobile Technical Manager in delivering technical design work across our fleet of mobile healthcare units. This role will assist with unit and MEP-related design changes, updates to existing units, and the preparation of design documentation to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and in compliance with healthcare standards. This is a hands‑on design role requiring strong technical understanding, excellent CAD capability and the ability to work within a fast‑paced environment where units must meet strict regulatory and operational requirements. Responsibilities: Support the Mobile Technical Manager with the development, modification and detailing of structural and MEP components for mobile healthcare units. Produce and update technical drawings and 3D models using
AutoCAD
and
SolidWorks . Assist with design solutions relating to ventilation, water systems, medical gases and other MEP services. Prepare manufacturing drawings, layouts, schematics and technical documentation. Contribute to design reviews, providing technical input and verifying compliance with relevant standards. Liaise with internal teams (Operations, Engineering, Projects) to gather requirements and ensure designs reflect operational needs. Assist in maintaining design records, drawing registers and change‑control processes. Support problem‑solving activities through design analysis, investigation and drafting of design modifications. Ensure all design work aligns with healthcare regulations, HTM (Health Technical Memoranda) guidelines, and best industry practice. Requirements Proven experience as a Design Engineer or CAD Engineer. Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for 2D and 3D design. Strong understanding of MEP systems, particularly ventilation, plumbing, and medical gas installations. Engineering background (mechanical, building services, manufacturing, or related discipline). Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications. Excellent problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Mobile Technical Manager and wider teams. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage workload across multiple concurrent tasks. Experience working on healthcare projects, mobile healthcare units, modular buildings or similar regulated environments. Familiarity with HTM guidelines, healthcare compliance standards, or medical facility infrastructure. Knowledge of coach‑building methods or vehicle‑based structures. Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials used in mobile or modular construction. Benefits for the role: 25 days per year (Jan – Dec) + UK bank holidays
