Job Description Summary:
Samuel Merritt University seeks a dynamic and results-oriented Senior Manager of Digital Marketing to lead and elevate our online presence and engagement efforts. This pivotal role will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive digital marketing strategies across our website, email communications, and paid digital media channels to achieve key institutional goals. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record of leveraging data-driven insights to optimize digital campaigns and a passion for the unique mission of SMU.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
  • Work with VP to help develop, implement, and manage a holistic digital marketing strategy aligned with the university's overall strategic objectives and brand identity.

Website Management and Optimization:
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the university website, ensuring content is accurate, up-to-date, and engaging.
  • Collaborate with web developers and designers to improve website functionality, user experience, and SEO performance.
  • Implement and maintain website analytics to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure the website adheres to university branding guidelines and accessibility standards.

Email Marketing:
  • Develop and execute email marketing strategies to support student recruitment and retention.
  • Manage email lists, segmentation, and automation to deliver targeted and personalized communications.
  • Create compelling email content, including newsletters, announcements, and promotional materials.
  • Monitor email campaign performance, analyze results, and optimize strategies to improve open rates, click-through rates, and conversions.

Digital Paid Media:
  • Collaborate with external agencies to develop and execute paid media campaigns across various digital channels, including search, social media, and display advertising.
  • Provide strategic guidance and feedback to the agency to ensure campaigns align with institutional goals and deliver a strong ROI.
  • Monitor campaign budgets, track performance metrics, and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and best practices in digital advertising to identify new opportunities and optimize campaign performance.

Performance Analysis & Reporting:
  • Liaise with external partners to help establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop robust reporting mechanisms to track the performance of website, email, and paid digital media initiatives.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.

Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other departments, including admissions, marketing, communications, and program directors to ensure integrated and consistent messaging across all channels.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership, providing updates on digital marketing initiatives and their impact on institutional goals.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and agencies, ensuring high-quality work and cost-effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in digital marketing, with at least 3 years leading website and email programs.
  • Proven experience in website management, including content management systems (CMS), SEO, and web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Strong knowledge of email marketing best practices and experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
  • Experience managing digital paid media campaigns (search, social media, display) and working with external agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content and present information effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-not limited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
