About the Role

We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to support innovation in sustainable packaging design, paper manufacturing, and material development. The ideal candidate will have expertise in materials science, automation, and packaging engineering, with hands-on experience in rapid prototyping and testing of paper-based packaging solutions.

This role involves close collaboration with internal design and engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to develop and validate sustainable, high-performance packaging systems used in large-scale production and e-commerce operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and test paper-based and fibre-based packaging concepts (corrugated, folding cartons, displays, etc.).
  • Organise and track materials for testing, supporting engineering teams in sample management, validation, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine packaging concepts, materials, and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain testing protocols and SOPs for evaluating new materials and packaging designs.
  • Operate Kongsberg cutting tables and use ARTIOS CAD for packaging design and rapid prototyping.
  • Conduct ISTA/ASTM testing on packaging materials and components, ensuring compliance with performance and sustainability standards.
  • Support procurement and supply chain teams in sourcing and evaluating materials for packaging development.
  • Analyse and summarise test data, preparing concise reports to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to identify innovative materials and sustainable packaging solutions.
  • Support quality assurance and compliance processes, ensuring product consistency and regulatory alignment.
  • Coordinate shipments, receipt, and handling of prototypes and testing samples.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in packaging automation, design efficiency, and sustainability.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging or Industrial Design
  • 1-5 years of paper packaging design experience (corrugated, folding, displays, etc)
  • 3–5 years of experience in Packaging Design, Paper Engineering, or Fibre-based Manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in ARTIOS CAD and familiarity with Kongsberg cutting tables.
  • Knowledge of ISTA/ASTM testing standards and industry-standard testing procedures.
  • Strong Excel/data management and reporting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Statistical Modelling and Material Data Analysis.
  • Background in Adhesives, Coating Processes, or Materials Engineering.
  • Familiarity with OEM filling equipment and packaging converting operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive design deliverables and project deadlines.
  • Passion for sustainability and innovation in packaging systems.
