About Council on Aging in Union County
Council on Aging in Union County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping older adults remain independent and safe in their homes and community. Through in-home services, family caregiver support, group respite, home safety programs, and resource coordination, we serve thousands of older adults and their family caregivers each year.
As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking a Development Director to lead and manage our fundraising efforts and help advance our mission.
Position Summary
The Development Director leads Council on Aging in Union County's fundraising and development program. Working in close partnership with the Executive Director and leadership team, this role participates in the development of the annual fund development plan and is responsible for executing, managing, and tracking all fundraising activities outlined in that plan.
The Development Director oversees individual giving, events, grants, planned giving, and other revenue streams, and supervises two staff members. The Development Director drives day-to-day fundraising execution while the Executive Director remains engaged in high-level strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Fund Development Leadership
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on the annual fund development plan.
- Manage and execute fundraising initiatives across all revenue streams.
- Track progress toward fundraising goals and provide regular reports.
Individual Giving & Campaigns
- Manage annual appeals and Better with Age Breakfast fundraising.
- Oversee donor stewardship and acknowledgment processes.
- Support major donor cultivation and solicitation in partnership with the Executive Director and leadership team.
Planned Giving
- Lead the development and launch of a planned giving program.
- Create planned giving materials and messaging.
- Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects.
- Integrate planned giving into donor communications and engagement.
Grants & Institutional Giving
- Oversee private foundation grant strategy and submissions.
- Coordinate tracking and reporting for government grants related to fundraising.
Events Oversight
- Provide oversight for fundraising events, including:
- Senior Wellness Expo
- Corks & Forks Wine & Food Festival
- Better with Age Breakfast
- Supervise event planning and execution led by the Community Engagement & Events Coordinator.
Resource Guide Oversight
- Oversee the Successful Aging Resource Guide as an earned revenue initiative.
- Set revenue goals and timelines for advertising sales.
- Provide guidance, oversight, and support for ad sales, coordination, and production
Communications Oversight
- Oversee fundraising and engagement communications, including newsletters, website fundraising content, and social media related to campaigns and events.
Supervision & Collaboration
- Supervise development staff.
- Foster collaboration across departments to support fundraising goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated success in individual giving and events.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience with planned giving or interest in developing expertise preferred.
