Summary

Performs all tasks related to collection, compaction, and disposal of recyclable materials for the professional accomplishment of the general business at the Rural Recycling Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:

  • Support the collection and baling of electronic waste, aluminum, cardboard, and paper materials.
  • Collect single-stream and household recyclables, loading them into designated vehicles for compaction.
  • Operate forklifts and other relevant equipment as required.
  • Help process and organize brush and mulch materials to assist operations at the Rural Recycling Center.
  • Participate in collecting recyclable materials from rural collection sites as needed.
  • Communicate recycling center procedures and assist the public.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Experience in recycling, waste management, or a related field is preferred. Familiarity with equipment such as balers, compactors, and forklifts is a plus, but not mandatory.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license and provide a three (3) year driving history to operate county vehicles.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be capable of performing physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions and maintaining effective, cooperative working relationships with colleagues.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and understand basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written form.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply logical thinking and common sense to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and solve routine problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The following work environment conditions are typical of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these duties.

Normal operating hours for Rural Recycling are Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Saturday, 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Staffing needs and operational demands may require adjustments to start and end times, as well as the total number of hours scheduled each day, as determined by the supervisor.

This position has been identified as having potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other occupational hazards, requiring immunization as a condition of employment.

While performing job duties, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical equipment, is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and operates in outdoor environments under various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud.
