Blackstone Paving & Excavation is looking for a hands-on, mechanically inclined construction professional to take ownership of equipment maintenance while also being an active part of our field crew.

This is not a sit-in-the-shop mechanic role.
This is a hybrid position for someone who enjoys:

• Preventative maintenance and repairs
• Diagnosing issues and staying ahead of breakdowns
• Running equipment and working onsite with the excavation/paving crew

Role Overview

• Approx. 30% mechanic / maintenance work (more in winter)
• Approx. 70% field work running equipment or laboring
• You will be the point person for equipment maintenance and repairs
• When equipment is running smoothly, you'll be onsite as part of the crew

What You'll Be Responsible For

Equipment & Maintenance (Primary Responsibility)

• Preventative maintenance for:
• Dump trucks
• Heavy equipment
• Small engines
• Pickups
• Diagnosing issues and performing in-house repairs
• Welding and light fabrication
• Scheduling outsourced repairs (engines, major transmissions, etc.)
• Ordering parts and coordinating vendors
• Maintaining organized maintenance records and schedules
• Helping establish and improve maintenance standards
• Teaching operators proper equipment care
• Speaking up when equipment is being abused

All mechanical work is done at Blackstone's shop. Blackstone provides all tools and shop space.

Field Work (Crew Member Role)

• Operating equipment
• Laboring on excavation and paving jobs
• Supporting the foreman and crew onsite
• Helping keep projects moving efficiently
• Working outdoors in varying weather conditions

This Role Is a Great Fit If You:

• Enjoy both mechanical work and jobsite work
• Have experience with diesel engines and heavy equipment
• Are self-directed and don't need constant supervision
• Take ownership and pride in keeping equipment dialed in
• Are comfortable being "the guy" responsible for maintenance
• Want long-term growth, not just a paycheck
• Can switch gears between shop work and field work as needed

Experience & Requirements

• Construction experience required (paving or excavation preferred)
• General diesel & heavy equipment knowledge
• Welding/fabrication experience preferred
• Valid driver's license & clean driving record
• Ability to pass a drug screening
• Physically capable of:
• Lifting, bending, climbing equipment
• Working on your feet
• Working outdoors most days
• Strong communication and organization skills

Certifications are a plus, but not required.

Schedule & Pay

• 40–45 hours per week on average
• Seasonal overtime during peak months
• No on-call requirements
• Pay range: $25–$27/hour (DOE)
• Estimated yearly gross: $65k to $70k (DOE)
• Full-time, year-round position
