Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Welder Helper to support our fabrication and construction teams on-site. This role involves assisting skilled welders in various welding and fabrication tasks, ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in welding, construction, and mechanical work, with a willingness to learn and grow within the company. Experience with construction sites and basic fabrication tools is preferred, along with familiarity with welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, FCAW, and welding. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Duties
- Assist welders with setup, positioning, and preparation of materials for welding operations
- Support in cutting, grinding, and fitting metal components using power tools and hand tools
- Help interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication
- Operate or assist with plasma cutting, press brake machines, and other fabrication equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and standards such as ASME codes & standards
- Support rigging, pipe threading, assembly, and other mechanical tasks as needed
- Use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to ensure components meet specifications
- Assist in material handling including ductwork installation, sheet metal work, and fabrication of structural components
- Support the use of forklifts or other machinery for material movement (if certified)
- Follow instructions from supervisors to ensure project deadlines are met while maintaining quality standards
Requirements
- Construction site experience or related manufacturing background preferred
- Basic knowledge of welding preferred
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, schematics, and technical drawings
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, and machining tools safely
- Mechanical knowledge related to fabrication processes such as assembly, and sheet metal work
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations during fabrication tasks
- Experience with schematics or diagrams related to structural assemblies is a plus
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment on construction sites
- Willingness to learn new skills related to welding standards such as ASME codes & standards
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods during shifts
