Assistant Manager – Job Description

General Description
The Assistant Manager works alongside the General Manager to execute the restaurant's business model, drive sales growth, and control labor and food costs. This role is responsible for managing daily operations, supervising employees, overseeing inventory and ordering, and ensuring excellence in service and product quality. The Assistant Manager plays a key role in upholding company standards and contributing to guest satisfaction, retention, and positive feedback.

Essential Functions

Sales

  • Adhere to company standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs, including food, beverage, supply, utility, and labor expenses.

Operations

  • Oversee and assist in managing all areas of the restaurant, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Lead each shift, conduct pre-shift meetings, work alongside team members, and ensure shift management goals are achieved.
  • Create and manage employee schedules to meet store needs (Crunchtime/Teamworx).
  • Oversee efficient provisioning and purchasing of supplies, review KS food orders, make necessary adjustments, and enter orders into CrunchTime.
  • Determine BOH inventory PAR levels.
  • Place vendor and commissary orders via CrunchTime.
  • Ensure all financial administrative duties—including invoices and reports—are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness inside and outside the restaurant and enforce sanitary practices for food handling, equipment, and kitchen/dining areas.
  • Ensure compliance with operational standards, company policies, and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Uphold a professional restaurant image, including cleanliness, uniforms, and appearance standards.
  • Ensure food surfaces and baking equipment meet all health and safety requirements.
  • Identify maintenance needs and report concerns to the General Manager.
  • Ensure proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests, and company assets.
  • Oversee proper cash handling practices and support theft prevention efforts.

Hospitality

  • Ensure positive guest service in all areas of the restaurant. Respond to complaints and take appropriate action to turn dissatisfied guests into returning guests.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality food preparation and service.

Development

  • Monitor staff performance and conduct periodic performance reviews.
  • Coach and develop team members, including hiring, training, disciplining, and, when necessary, terminating employees.
  • Maintain a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods.
  • Ability to safely lift bags, cases, and stacked items weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to work around kitchen hazards, including hot surfaces and liquids, sharp knives, and slippery floors.

  • Completion of six weeks of OK kitchen training, functioning as a KS during training.
  • Valid ServSafe certification or equivalent local health certification.

Required Education & Competencies

  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary school degree preferred.
  • Proven experience as an Assistant Manager or in a comparable role.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
