Supervisor - Mechanical Maintenance

Purpose Statement
The job of Supervisor - Mechanical Maintenance is done for the purpose/s of supervising the HVAC, electrical and plumbing department installations, repairs, alteration and maintenance of the mechanical equipment within the district; planning maintenance services that ensure a safe and positive learning environment; and maintaining adequate staffing to ensure objectives are achieved within budget. The Mechanical Maintenance supervisor will implement/oversee and monitor energy projects to ensure energy conservation measures are being maintained and utilized efficiently.

Essential Functions

  • Administers maintenance budget for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate and funds are maximized.
  • Analyzes maintenance requirements for the purpose of determining immediate and long term maintenance needs to ensure that students and staff are safe, making recommendations, and maximizing use of available funds.
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Collaborates other district personnel and outside vendors for the purpose of providing information necessary for making decisions regarding maintenance requirements
  • Composes a variety of documents (e.g. reports, memos, letters, procedures, manuals, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with established fiscal guidelines.
  • Maintains a variety of information, files and records (e.g. preventive maintenance program, time/material costs, contracts, budget, inspections, personnel records, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Monitors air conditioning and HVAC maintenance requirements (e.g. emergency generator system, hot water boilers, exhaust fan systems, motors, control panels, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that work is performed within required time frames, at reasonable cost and in accordance with safe work practices.
  • Prepares various reports and budgets (e.g. training materials, time & material costs, inventory reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing guidance and /or recommendations to Administration.
  • Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. future HVAC equipment, personnel needs, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction that ensures efficient operation of maintenance programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Supervises maintenance activities and assigned personnel (e.g. schedules, evaluates, trains, recommends hiring, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring department functions are performed efficiently and in conformance with required safety and regulatory standards.
  • Performs other duties or projects as assigned by the supervisor.

Mental Requirements
Learning Development- Level D Specialized vocational or technical knowledge providing a command of certain technical, administrative, and/or operative practices and techniques. Learning development involves the completion of a formal technical/vocational curriculum often resulting in a degree.
Problem Solving - Level 3 Work situations are of sufficient scope and variety that significant interpretation and evaluation is required to successfully recognize and define problems. Highly technical judgments and/or constructive thinking involved. Alternative solutions must be considered and short-term action plans must be developed and sequenced.
Physical Requirements
Physical Skill - Level B Some learned physical skill is required. Certain coordinated finger, limb, or body movements must be performed in the course of regular work routines. These can usually be learned and competency developed on the job over a relatively short period of time.
Physical Effort - Level 1 Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.
Social Requirements
Human Relations Skill- Level B Job requires patience in communication and well-developed verbal skills to exchange technical or complex information with individuals or small, informal groups. Skills in establishing harmonious relationships and gaining cooperation are important.
Scope of Contacts - Level 2 Interpersonal contacts extend to peers in other work groups, or to clients/customers who speak the language, either within or outside the organization. interactions with higher levels of authority beyond immediate supervisor must be conducted on an intermittent basis.
Work Environment
Performance Environment - Level B Work pressure, disturbances of work flow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills.
Physical Working Conditions - Level 1 Generally good working conditions. Little or no exposure to extremes in noise, temperature, etc. little or no exposure to safety or health hazards.
Accountability
Level of Accountability -Level D Responsible for the supervision of output in terms of scheduling, progress, and results; for safety, job training, and morale of others; and records. May perform some output. first-line supervisory work.
Organizational Impact - Level 2 Work results impact the accuracy, reliability, and acceptability of further results beyond the immediate work section. work results are noticeable and represent a portion of, or support product or service received by the customer or general public.

Experience, Education, and Certifications
Experience: Job related experience within the specialized field is required.
Education: Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job related area.
Certifications/Clearances: Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed. Valid Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability. Air Conditioning Certificate. HVAC Certificate.

Pay Schedule: Salary - E122
Work Calendar: 12 Month Long
