Switchgear Electrical Engineer

Los Angeles, CA – On-site

Company & Role Summary

We are a fast-growing organization specializing in power distribution systems, electrical equipment, and critical infrastructure support. Our teams work hands-on to ensure the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of the systems our customers depend on. We're currently looking for a
Switchgear Electrical Engineer
to join our engineering group and support the design, development, and testing of electrical control systems and components.

This role is ideal for someone who loves solving technical challenges, enjoys a mix of design and field engagement, and wants to contribute to projects that directly impact safety, quality, and system performance. You'll work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and field teams to turn customer requirements into practical, reliable, and code-compliant solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design

  • Develop electrical and mechanical design solutions using engineering principles, design software, and industry standards.
  • Produce drawings, schematics, three-line diagrams, and documentation for manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.
  • Perform detailed calculations to establish standards, specifications, and construction or installation criteria.
  • Review and validate drawings to ensure compliance with technical requirements and applicable codes.
  • Inspect installations and equipment performance to confirm alignment with design intent.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers to clarify design requirements and address technical questions.
  • Collaborate with vendors and purchasing teams to obtain material pricing, lead times, and product specifications.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts to keep projects on schedule and ensure deliverables meet expectations.
  • Maintain equipment knowledge and provide hands-on support where needed.
  • Follow organizational, safety, and regulatory procedures while meeting project deadlines — including overtime when required.

Testing & Quality Support

  • Conduct functional testing on relay panels, switchgear lineups, communication systems, and HMI components.
  • Review project specifications and implement test procedures to meet project and code requirements.
  • Maintain project test folders with reports, drawings, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts to improve testing efficiency and overall product quality.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in electrical design and testing within a manufacturing or industrial environment. They're comfortable reading schematics, collaborating across teams, and balancing design precision with practical field realities. A strong technical foundation—paired with communication skills, curiosity, and a mindset for continuous improvement—will help this person thrive in a role where quality, safety, and reliability are key.
