Description

Position Summary:

The Dryer Operator plays a vital role on Valley Milk's production team, ensuring the efficient and safe transformation of liquid milk into high-quality powdered dairy products. This position is responsible for operating and monitoring Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems and managing the drying process. A strong attention to detail, commitment to product quality, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards are essential.

The Dryer Operator must be proficient in operating and troubleshooting production equipment, maintaining optimal system efficiency, and ensuring compliance with all standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and sanitation protocols. Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—are also critical for accurate documentation and team collaboration.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform pre-operational equipment checks before initiating production processes.

  • Inspect raw material components and finished products to ensure quality and compliance with SOPs.

  • Monitor daily system performance, suggesting improvements for quality and process efficiency.

  • Operate drying equipment according to SOPs, making real-time adjustments based on system outputs and data.

  • Collect and document samples as per quality and safety protocols.

  • Accurately complete all production and sanitation logs, work instructions, and documentation.

  • Track and report chemical usage, verifying it aligns with operational standards; escalate concerns to supervisor.

  • Verify Clean-in-Place (CIP) system effectiveness.

  • Maintain a "dry floor" environment, immediately addressing leaks or spills and notifying supervision.

  • Ensure punctual attendance and readiness to contribute to daily operations.

  • Participate in equipment cleaning and maintenance according to the production schedule.

  • Proactively recommend improvements to processes, SOPs, and sanitation practices.

  • Adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols; identify and report any safety concerns or hazards.

  • Engage respectfully with team members, contributing to a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

  • Share insights and suggestions during shift changeovers and team meetings to support continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt to change, and take an active role in the success of the operation.

  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.



Qualifications


Position Specifications & Qualifications

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required. Equivalent work experience in a related field will also be considered.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a production or manufacturing plant environment is a plus.

  • Experience operating industrial production equipment is highly desirable.



Physical Requirements

The role of Dryer Operator involves significant physical activity and requires the ability to perform the following tasks on a regular or occasional basis:

  • Climbing: Frequent use of ladders and stairs requiring coordination and agility of both arms and legs.

  • Walking: Regular short-distance walking throughout the facility to complete tasks.

  • Repetitive Movements: Frequent use of hands, wrists, and arms. 

  • Stooping & Bending: Routine forward bending at the waist and spine.

  • Reaching: Regular extension of arms and hands in multiple directions.

  • Kneeling & Crouching: Occasional lowering of the body to knee or crouched positions to perform tasks.

  • Verbal Communication: Ability to clearly and accurately communicate instructions and information to team members in a fast-paced environment.

This position requires the operation and monitoring of the following equipment and systems:

  • Industrial Equipment: Dryers, Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems, and other dairy processing machinery

  • Technology & Analytical Tools: Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, personal computers

  • Office Equipment: Printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, and calculators

Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift
  • 5:00 pm to 5:00 am
  • Night shift
  • Rotating weekends
