Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Delivery Driver / Technician
Position Summary
The DME Delivery Driver/Technician is responsible for the safe delivery, setup, and instruction of durable medical equipment and supplies in patients' homes, healthcare facilities, and hospitals. This role combines driving, equipment handling, technical setup, patient education, and excellent customer service to ensure patients receive the highest quality of care and support.
Key Responsibilities
Safely load, transport, and deliver durable medical equipment (oxygen systems, hospital beds, wheelchairs, CPAP/BiPAP, etc.) to patients' homes and healthcare facilities.
Retrieve and return equipment per company standards and infection control protocols.
Assemble, install, and test medical equipment to ensure proper function.
Perform basic troubleshooting, adjustments, and preventive maintenance.
Follow company procedures for cleaning, disinfecting, and tagging returned equipment.
Provide clear instructions to patients and caregivers on proper equipment use, safety, and maintenance.
Ensure patient/caregiver understands how to operate the equipment before leaving the site.
Obtain required signatures, delivery receipts, and documentation for each delivery/pickup.
Maintain accurate delivery logs, service tickets, and electronic records.
Adhere to HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
Represent the company with professionalism and compassion in every interaction.
Respond to patient questions and escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
Handle after-hours on-call deliveries as scheduled.
Comply with DOT regulations, OSHA, and infection control procedures.
Inspect delivery vehicle daily, report maintenance needs, and ensure safe operation.
Follow company policies for handling oxygen and other regulated equipment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Prior experience in medical equipment delivery, healthcare, or logistics preferred.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to lift/move up to 75 lbs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to participate in on-call rotation, nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment daily.
Frequent bending, kneeling, and walking in patient homes and facilities.
Ability to safely operate company vehicle for extended periods.
