Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Building Automation Engineer, Manager to own and ensure continuous automation operations for three newly built R&D facilities, with future responsibility expansion into GMP-controlled environments. This is a manager-level role but demands a hands-on approach (≈95%) in system-documentation, programming, troubleshooting, and implementation. The selected candidate will lead efforts alongside five BMS members and partner with a team of automation engineers. The candidate must demonstrate strong technical depth in PLC programming and control systems—particularly Allen Bradley, Rockwell Automation, Ignition SCADA and PI applications, while having a strong understanding of HVAC fundamentals. A standout candidate will also have validation capabilities, Siemens Insight/Desigo proficiencies, while having a positive drive for GMP compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Ensure building automation operations have a 99.997% uptime, including all campus Hazardous Monitoring Systems
Program and configure PLCs—primarily Allen Bradley and Rockwell systems—to control HVAC, lighting, and environmental monitoring
Program and configure Ignition SCADA system(s) while utilizing PI Historian system(s) to perform requested trend data
Review design, deployment, and optimization of PLC type Building Management Systems (BMS) and automation infrastructure across newly implemented buildings
Provide automation partnership and services to Ground Level Mechanics, End-users Sustainability and Optimization efforts
Implement automation strategies in preparation for GMP operational standards and compliance
Coordinate with mechanical/electrical contractors, commissioning agents, and validation teams during construction and/or area changes
Provide hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and updates of control systems and related equipment
Ensure all automation systems meet safety, efficiency, and regulatory requirements (including cGMP readiness)
Mentor and direct teammates while maintaining individual technical ownership
Document system specifications, change controls, user guides, and SOPs to support quality and audit processes
Assist with management of a budget to maintain building automation operation YOY
Basic Qualifications:
BS/BA with 6+ Years of experience
OR
MS/MA with 4+ Years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Expert-level PLC experience with Allen Bradley and Rockwell Automation platforms
Ability to own and operate campus size Ignition SCADA system, this system will potentially integrate into 38 buildings
Candidate must display they are a self-start and will spearhead continual improvement for this function
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, OPC)
Proven experience designing, programming, and integrating building control systems
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, cleanroom standards, and building compliance within R&D or regulated industries
Ability to lead while staying actively involved in technical execution
Outstanding organizational and communication skills, with a detail-oriented mindset
Experience with GMP-compliant operations or regulated facilities
Knowledge of building commissioning, system validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and calibration procedures
Familiarity with Ignition, Siemens Desigo, or PI Historian systems
Understanding of network architectures, cybersecurity, and IT/OT system integration
Certifications such as LEED AP, PMP, or BAS-related credentials are a plus
