JOB TITLE: Assistant Cafeteria Manager

REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Supervisor

DEPT. / SCHOOL: Food Service / Cy Fair Campus

WAGE / HOUR STATUS / TERMS: Non-Exempt/Hourly/Temporary

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for on-site leadership of campus school nutrition operations. Ensure that appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served. Meet time constraints set by menu requirements established by Child Nutrition Supervisor. Ensure all operations follow safe food handling standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

Texas Food handler certification or obtain during employment

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment and food production

Experience:

1-year experience working in a commercial kitchen preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.
  • Maintain garbage collection containers and areas in a neat and sanitary fashion.
  • Supervise the storage and care of food items and supplies; maintain a clean and organized storage area.
  • Care for and use equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures.
  • Follow established procedures to ensure standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
  • Assist in recording food requisitions and request orders of necessary supplies.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
  • Some travel to other campuses within district as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands:

Understands verbal and written instructions; receive directives as assigned; meet established deadlines; maintain accurate and auditable records; maintains emotional control under stress; reading; ability to perform basic mathematics.

Tools/Equipment Used:

All kitchen equipment and knives; uses large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, and sharp cutting tools; ovens; dishwasher; and food and utility cart; computer with appropriate software.

  • Continual standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting.

  • Able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Extended hours as needed.

ABOUT BOB HOPE SCHOOL

Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education. Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus. Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur and Beaumont, Texas. The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
