Referral Coordinator

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing patient referrals, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, and facilitating effective communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies. This position requires strong organizational skills and a solid understanding of medical terminology and coding.

Duties

• Manage the referral process for patients by coordinating with healthcare providers and specialists.
• Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for referred services.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Utilize CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding to ensure proper documentation of patient referrals.
• Communicate effectively with patients regarding their referral status and any necessary follow-up actions.
• Assist in the scheduling of appointments with specialists as needed.
• Collaborate with medical office staff to streamline referral processes and improve patient care.
• Ensure that all referral documentation is complete and submitted in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a managed care environment is preferred.
• Medical office experience is essential.
• Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality practices.
• Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and general medical coding practices.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to interpret medical records effectively.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
