Who We Are

Kwenda Collegiate Girls Charter School is a public, tuition-free, K–8 charter school rooted in the belief that true gender justice starts with our youngest learners. We are opening in Flatbush, Brooklyn, welcoming students in kindergarten and first grade, and will grow one grade each year until we serve grades K–8.

Our mission is to reimagine school—ensuring all girls have access to an excellent education that empowers them to lead fully self-determined lives filled with promise, wonder, and joyful ease.

Where You'll Come In

We're seeking part-time Community Canvassers to help us spread the word about Kwenda Collegiate Girls and support student recruitment across Flatbush and surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods. This is a critical outreach role ideal for people who love engaging with families, building community, and making education more accessible.

This role is hourly (10–15 hours/week) until December 2025, with the possibility of extension.

How You'll Have An Impact

  • Help prospective families learn about Kwenda through direct outreach in local neighborhoods, including housing complexes, pre-K centers, playgrounds, small businesses, and community events
  • Distribute flyers and speak confidently about Kwenda's mission and model
  • Track daily outreach and follow up with interested families using provided tools and scripts
  • Provide Spanish translation and cultural context (preferred, not required)
  • Represent the school with warmth, professionalism, and a community-first mindset
  • Support the recruitment team with event setup and logistics for pop-ups, tabling, and more
  • Help us ensure that every family who might benefit from Kwenda knows how to enroll

  • You're outgoing, friendly, and love connecting with people
  • You are fluent or conversational in Haitian Creole (preferred)
  • You're dependable and detail-oriented, with strong follow-through
  • You're familiar with Brooklyn, especially Flatbush and Central Brooklyn, and want to make a difference in your own community
  • You're comfortable working on the go—indoors, outdoors, and during occasional evenings or weekends
