Position Overview
El Valle De La Sultana Market is seeking a seasoned Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee and optimize daily operations across all four grocery store locations. The COO will work closely with ownership to drive operational excellence, profitability, scalability, and consistent customer experience while leading store management teams and operational departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Oversee all store operations across multiple locations, ensuring consistency in standards, policies, and performance
- Lead store managers and department heads to achieve operational and financial goals
- Establish and monitor KPIs related to sales, labor, shrink, inventory, and customer service
Strategy & Growth
- Partner with ownership on short- and long-term business strategy
- Lead operational planning for new locations, expansions, or remodels
- Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs
Financial & Performance Management
- Manage store-level budgets, labor planning, and expense controls
- Analyze sales performance, margins, and operating reports
- Drive profitability through pricing, merchandising, and labor optimization
People & Culture
- Work closely with HR leadership on staffing, training, performance management, and compliance
- Develop strong leadership pipelines for store and department managers
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and a customer-first culture
Inventory, Vendors & Supply Chain
- Oversee inventory management, ordering, vendor relationships, and shrink control
- Ensure proper product availability, rotation, and merchandising standards
- Negotiate with suppliers and monitor vendor performance
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with food safety, health regulations, labor laws, and internal policies
- Oversee safety programs, loss prevention, and incident response
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, or related field (MBA preferred)
- 10+ years of operations leadership experience, preferably in grocery, retail, or food distribution
- Proven experience managing multi-location operations
- Strong financial acumen and P&L management experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required, conversational Portuguese is beneficial
- Excellent leadership, decision-making, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on retail environment
