Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Terms: Full-time, hourly, 7 am – 4 pm

Salary/Rate: Starting at $25 an hour, based on experience + Benefits

Reports To: Operations Manager

About Us: Gemstone, Inc. is a toll feed mill making and delivering bulk swine feed.

Role Summary:

The maintenance technician will perform daily maintenance of all facility equipment, troubleshoot any unforeseen equipment issues, and make repairs in a timely manner. He/she will work closely with managers and other employees to maintain a downtime-free facility. He/she will maintain a detailed preventive maintenance schedule and follow all safety regulations. He/she will work closely with outside contractors.

Responsibilities:

· Perform daily, routine, and preventative maintenance on equipment such as greasing bearings, cleaning, welding, and replacing belts to ensure optimal condition and notify supervisor of equipment status and needs

· Troubleshoot and complete emergency mechanical and electrical repairs on equipment, machinery, and tools

· Maintain accurate record of work completed including parts used and time spent in repairs or modifications to equipment

· Participate in process improvement and problem solving utilizing continuous improvement and rational thinking

· Modify equipment or work procedures to reduce cost or labor

· Operate equipment such as forklift, skid-steer, boom/scissor lift, and telehandler when needed to complete maintenance

· Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and orderliness in tools, shop, grounds, elevators, and equipment

· Abide by, observe, and enforce all human safety and food safety company policies

· Oversee outside contractors and enforce company safety policies with outside contractors

· Assist supervisor personnel, mill personnel, and grain operations personnel in a timely manner when emergencies occur

· Climb to distributors on grain legs for routine checks and unplug as needed

· Assist in annual bin sweeping, flat storage cleanout, and corn drying in the fall

· Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to work effectively and cooperatively

· Be an involved and engaged member of the team and be willing to think and work independently

· Work overtime for scheduled equipment maintenance projects and be on call when equipment malfunctions

· Work holidays, weekends, or different shifts on rare occasions

· Complete other responsibilities as assigned by management

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to climb and work on grain structures on a regular basis

Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds

· Ability to perform physical job duties including but not limited to bending/stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders and stairs, opening/closing valves, and shoveling

· Ability to work in elevated areas, confined spaces, and over and under equipment

· Ability to detect sound differentiations in running equipment

· Ability to work in a variety of conditions (heat, cold, dust, etc.)

Education/Knowledge Required:

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work

· Light metal fabrication and welding knowledge and experience

· Mechanical knowledge and experience

· Electrical knowledge and experience

· Confined space and lock out tag out knowledge

Skills and Work Experience Preferred but not Required:

· Experience operating equipment such as forklift, electric pallet jack, skid-steer, boom/scissor lift, telehandler

· Experience troubleshooting and working on conveyors, augers, grain legs, distributors, motors, gearboxes, bearings, PLCs

· Experience in production related work and team environment

· Basic computer skills

· Written and verbal communication skills
