About HPF: Houston Precision Fasteners produces high strength, fatigue rated, close tolerance fasteners using materials such as carbon steel, alloy steel, nickel alloy, titanium, waspaloy, A-286, monel and multiphase. Our fasteners have supported mission aircrafts such as; Joint Strike Fighters, F/A 18 Super Hornet, and Falcon 9; just to name a few. Job Purpose: The Saw Operator is responsible for setting up and operating various cutting machines (like band saws, circular saws, or CNC saws) to precisely cut raw materials to required specifications for subsequent manufacturing and production processes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Machine Operation and Setup:

· Set up, adjust, and operate saws according to work orders, blueprints, or technical drawings.

· Select and install appropriate saw blades and attachments based on the material and cut type.

· Adjust machine settings (speed, tension, guides, and stops) for accurate and safe operation.

Cutting and Quality Control:

  • Read and interpret engineering prints, blueprints, or job orders to determine material specifications and cutting dimensions.
  • Measure, examine, and verify the accuracy of work pieces using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, gauges).
  • Ensure all cuts conform to specified tolerances and detect/report any defects or inconsistencies in the material or finished pieces.
  • Optimize material usage to minimize scrap and waste.

Material Handling:

  • Pull, stage, and load raw materials onto the saw machine (may involve using forklifts, overhead cranes, or other material handling equipment).
  • Offload, stack, package, and route completed cuts to the next operation.

Maintenance and Safety:

  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of the saw equipment.
  • Replace worn or damaged saw blades as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Strictly adhere to all company and OSHA safety procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when performing maintenance.

Documentation:

  • Complete production records, logs, and paperwork accurately, often using computer-based inventory or ERP systems.

Typical Qualifications and Skills

Experience:

· High School Diploma or GED is typically required.

· Minimum of 1-3 years of previous experience operating saws or similar metal/material forming equipment in a manufacturing environment is often preferred.

· Forklift and/or overhead crane experience/certification can be a plus.

Technical Skills:

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.

· Proficiency in using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures).

· Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals).

· Familiarity with CNC machine operation (if applicable).

Personal Traits:

· High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

· Strong focus on safety.

· Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

· Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift or move materials (often up to 50-70 lbs.).

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
