Activity Assistant

Job description:

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in planning and leading specialized memory care activities such as:
• Music therapy and sing-alongs
• Sensory stimulation activities (ex. aromatherapy, textured items, hand massages)
• Reminiscence discussions using photos, music, and themed props
• Simple crafts and painting projects
• Gentle chair exercises and movement to music
• Pet therapy and nature-based programs
• Spiritual and calming rituals (prayer groups, hymn singing, candlelight)
• Outdoor walks and patio activities in a secured area
• Offer 1 to 1 support for residents who are non-verbal, withdrawn, or need individualized attention
• Observe and report changes in behavior, mood, or participation to care staff
• Adapt activities to meet the physical and cognitive abilities of each resident
• Create a calm and safe environment, minimizing overstimulation
• Assist with transitions to and from activities and encourage participation
• Help decorate the unit seasonally and set up activity areas to enhance visual cues
• Maintain accurate documentation of attendance and resident engagement

Christopher House of Worcester, one of the area's Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Centers, is looking for a highly creative, motivated, and outgoing individual to join our Resident Life/Activities Team.

You will be responsible for leading small and large group activities with a variety of resident populations. In addition, you will assist in periodic resident care assessments and in developing a resident centered recreation/activities plan of care. We value your input Bring your best ideas for fun

Previous experience in working with elders in a resident life or activities capacity is preferred for this position, but we will consider those applicants with related experience.

This position is on a Per Diem, on call, as needed basis.
