Bullis School seeks an Upper School Mathematics Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community beginning in the academic year. The ideal applicant is enthusiastic about teaching a range of math courses—including on-level, honors, and AP classes—from Algebra 1 through AP Statistics and AP Calculus. Candidates with interest or experience in teaching AP Calculus AB and/or BC are especially encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, 10-month position reporting to the Upper School Mathematics Department Chair. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, serving as an advisor, and contributing to department initiatives. Additional opportunities to supervise after-school activities may be available based on interest and school needs.

Leadership Pathway: This position offers an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified candidate to be considered for the Math Department Chair role beginning in the academic year. Candidates with leadership experience or a vision for advancing math education are strongly encouraged to apply. Chair responsibilities include:

  • Mentoring and supporting math faculty
  • Leading curricular development and program evaluation
  • Overseeing the Upper School mathematics curriculum in alignment with the school's mission and academic priorities
  • Teaching three classes (aligned to departmental needs)
  • Performing supervisory duties within the Upper School.

As a member of the upper school department chair team, the Math Chair ensures the curriculum reflects the school's mission, aligns with the broader academic program, and promotes instructional excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Teach five classes per academic year
  • Duties within the community, including student advising or other extracurricular activities
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
  • Collaborate with mathematics colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives
  • Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject-area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
  • Use technology to enhance students' active, experiential, and hands-on learning
  • Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
  • Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
  • Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
  • Attend Upper School divisional, mathematics department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students' progress, as needed and appropriate
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards and provide timely feedback to students
  • Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students

  • Other tasks as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Head of Upper School
  • Continued professional development endeavors

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
  • Minimum ofthree years teaching experience in secondary education
  • Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software

Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated annual salary range of $70,000 to $100,000
