The ideal candidate will have strong experience in embedded systems, digital and discrete circuit design, and hands-on development of electronic systems from concept through production. This role involves collaboration across multiple departments, design documentation, testing, and participation in full product lifecycle development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and evaluate embedded electronic systems utilizing microprocessors.
  • Perform discrete analog and digital circuit design, including FET and BJT-based circuits.
  • Conduct ESD analysis, testing, and system-level evaluation.
  • Use common lab and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, DVMs, power supplies, and function generators.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation including schematics, specifications, test plans, and design notes.
  • Participate in system-level design, project cost estimates, scheduling, and project management activities.
  • Work cross-functionally with Sales & Marketing, Senior Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and customer evaluation organizations (e.g., DOT).
  • Support LED-based product development including luminance testing, LED evaluation, qualifying drivers, and optics design.
  • Utilize PCB design tools (preferred: DipTrace) and prepare fabrication specifications including copper weight, trace width requirements, and material selection.
  • Assist in interpreting and implementing customer specifications for final product deliverables.
  • Employ simulation tools and mechanical drawing software to support design accuracy and communication.
  • Use Python and AI-assisted tools (including large language models) to support development, documentation, automation, and analysis tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  • 3–5 years of professional engineering experience.
  • Embedded systems experience with microprocessor-based designs.
  • Proficiency with digital and discrete component design (FETs, BJTs).
  • Familiarity with C programming for embedded environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, DVMs, etc.).
  • Experience with ESD testing and mitigation.
  • Project management capability, including schedule and task management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering design documentation.
  • Ability to develop specification sheets, cost analyses, and project schedules.
  • Background working with cross-functional teams throughout an organization.
  • Experience with PCB layout tools (DipTrace preferred) and PCB fabrication processes.
  • LED system design experience, including luminance measurement, driver qualification, and optical system considerations.
  • Familiarity with design simulation software.
  • Experience with mechanical drawing software.
  • Working knowledge of Python programming.
  • Experience utilizing AI tools or large language models in engineering workflows.
