GS Group are proud to support a global leader in microphysiological systems as they seek an Automation Engineer with a passion for innovative automation solutions.

This is a rare opportunity to join a cutting-edge contract research organization (CRO) whose work provides critical pre-clinical insights into drug safety.

If you're excited by meaningful work, collaborative innovation and building automation platforms that directly support next-generation biomedical research—this role is for you. You will be working on projects not in the public domain and machinery not available commercially.

The Company

They are globally recognised for their system used to predict human responses to drug compounds. They support both standard and custom system builds and partner closely with pharmaceutical, biotech, and academic clients worldwide.

The Role

You will play a critical role in designing, building, and supporting automation platforms that enhance throughput, quality, and operator usability. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing new automation platforms to improve production workflows.
  • Assembling and qualifying custom automation systems for daily operator use.
  • Integrating automation platforms with OEM laboratory equipment.
  • Maintaining, upgrading, and ensuring reliability of existing automation systems.
  • Collaborating closely with R&D teams to develop requirements and solve real technical challenges.

Required Qualifications, skills and experience

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • Mechanical design experience using a 3D parametric CAD platform.
  • Strong knowledge of key mechanical components such as:
  • Servo and stepper motors
  • Pneumatic actuators and cylinders
  • Rotary and linear motion systems
  • Extruded aluminium framing systems
  • Advanced understanding of part fixturing and handling.
  • Working knowledge of electrical components and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with software concepts and hands-on experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
