SUMMARY

Maintain and manage municipal or public property grounds by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Some duties may not apply. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Maintain and repair automatic irrigation systems including controllers, valves, various sprinkler head types, drip and bubbler irrigation, mainlines and lateral lines.
  • Ability to read and understand landscape and irrigation plans and provide verbal or written comments on such plans.
  • Estimate and prepare costs for additional work at client request.
  • Maintain irrigation log and provide Landscape Laborer 1 with recommendations on programming.
  • Prune ground covers, shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
  • Clean grounds and remove litter and leaves.
  • Repair, replace or remove damaged, faded or vandalized traffic signs or posts.
  • Temporarily patch sidewalk offsets or potholes in street.
  • Paint curbs and install pavement markers.
  • Repair fences, gates, and walls, including the painting over or removal of graffiti.
  • Inspect and clean drop inlets, field inlets, drainage ditches, culverts and other drainage facilities.
  • Prepare and/or review and approve daily time input from field employees
  • Make minor repairs on equipment such as edgers, trimmers, backpack blowers, etc.
  • Ability to use, and train others on the use of, equipment generally associated with the industry.
  • City events (holidays, storms, special), weekends, and overtime may be required up to and including uncontrolled on-call.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Work under supervision of Maintenance Superintendent, Landscape Maintenance Supervisor, Lead Maintenance Foreperson or designated person. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with MCE Corporation policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees, recommendation for discipline; assist with the planning, assigning, and directing of work.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Foreman is essential in contributing to the success of MCE's safety program. Each Foreman has the responsibility to:

  • Be familiar with all safety policies, programs, and procedures that affect your group/employees, including the Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP).
  • Give maximum support to all programs and committees whose function is to promote safety
  • Review applicable safety rules with your employees.
  • Consistently and fairly enforce all company safety rules.
  • Ensure that your employees follow all safe work practices and safety rules.
  • Provide or arrange for complete safety training to employees prior to the assignment of duties.
  • Encourage employees to report unsafe work conditions.
  • Encourage employees to report accidents that occur on the job.
  • Cooperate in the investigation of incidents on your jobsite or with your crew members to determine cause and ensure that appropriate action is taken to prevent repetition.
  • Be familiar with hazards and safety equipment located on your jobsites.
  • Be aware of all safety considerations when introducing a new process, procedure, machine or material into the workplace.
  • If confronted with a hazardous/unsafe situation, halt all operations until the hazard is corrected.
  • Ask for help from the Safety Manager if you are unsure how to safely deal with a situation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Three to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
