Job Summary

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting a broad range of human resources functions, including recruitment, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, payroll assistance, and performance management. This role helps ensure a positive, compliant, and productive workplace environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • HR Administration: Maintain accurate employee records and manage HR information systems. Manage HR-related data, reporting, and documentation.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Administer employee benefit programs and coordinate open enrollment. Process unemployment and workers' compensation claims. Assist with payroll for both office and union employees, ensuring accuracy. Serve as the point of contact for employee compensation and benefit inquiries.
  • Performance Management: Assist with performance review processes and monitor employee progress.
  • Employee Relations: Support conflict resolution and manage disciplinary actions and investigations. Promote positive workplace relationships and employee engagement.
  • Training & Development: Facilitate new-hire orientation and support performance development initiatives. Coordinate with the Organizational Development Specialist on designing and implementing training and employee engagement programs.
  • Compliance & Policy Administration: Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws. Maintain and update employee handbooks and HR policies. Communicate and enforce company policies consistently.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Post job openings, review applications, and conduct interviews as needed. Coordinate background checks and manage the full onboarding process. Ensure a smooth and welcoming new-hire experience.

  • HR Knowledge: Solid understanding of employment law, benefits administration, and HR best practices.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred SHRM certification.
  • Experience with union payroll or job costing is a plus.
  • Experience in the construction or specialty subcontracting industry is a plus.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Work Location: In person, with option to work from home one day per week, coordinated with team-members.
