Paraprofessional - Non-Public School (JTC ACADEMY)

Position Overview: The Paraprofessional will work under the direction of certified teachers to provide additional support and assistance to students in a non-public school setting. The role involves collaborating with educators to implement instructional strategies, monitor student progress, and ensure a positive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support:
  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons and implementing instructional activities.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to students as directed by the teacher.
  • Support students with special needs by implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and accommodations.
  • Classroom Management:
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and outdoor play.
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and behavior guidelines.
  • Assessment and Monitoring:
  • Assist teachers in assessing student performance through observation, testing, and other methods.
  • Maintain records of student progress and share insights with the teaching staff.
  • Provide feedback to teachers regarding student strengths, areas for improvement, and strategies for support.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to support student learning.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and concerns.
  • As required, participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (provisional license only); associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • Para Professional License Required
  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and students.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and learning accommodations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach to assist students and access materials.

Physical Elements Required:

  • Lifting and carrying 5-7 pounds without physical limitation would impair one's ability to fulfill the functions of the position. One must have sufficient mobility and physical stamina to travel all over the facility and to participate in a therapeutic crisis intervention in full, prone restraint.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching, stretching;
  • Standing for long periods of time;
  • Work requires the ability to work both indoors and outdoors

Mental Performing Elements:

  • Must be without emotional limitations that would impair ability to fulfill the functions of this job including freedom from substance abuse.
  • Organizing and coordinating schedules and events in an organized manner
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor
  • Ability to work within a closed environment
  • Ability to focus and sustain decorum

Associated Risks Involved:

Please note this position is in a school facility for troubled youth. There is always a possibility for injury due to restraints, running after youth, breaking up fights or other issues that staff encounter daily in their efforts made to keep youth from hurting themselves or others. I further understand that while these events may be going on or I am on the pathway of a student outburst or violent act, there is the potential for injury. I, therefore, understand that if asked, I will be required to provide medical evidence that I am capable of performing my duties in the above-said environment.
