Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursing Supervisor - Registered Nurse to oversee patient care operations within our healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, comprehensive clinical knowledge, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care across various medical settings. This role involves supervising nursing staff, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, and Athenahealth is essential, along with expertise in critical care, geriatrics, behavioral health, and specialized areas like ICU, trauma centers, dialysis, and neonatal care. The Nursing Supervisor will play a pivotal role in maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency in patient services.
Duties
- Supervise daily nursing operations across departments including medical-surgical, ICU, emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health, and long-term care settings such as assisted living and memory care.
- Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, physical examinations, and medical documentation ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and supervise clinical procedures including IV infusion/insertion, catheterization/care, phlebotomy, suturing, ventilator management, gastric lavage, spinal taps, and sterile processing.
- Manage medication administration protocols adhering to CPT coding and DRG guidelines while ensuring safe use of ventilators and airway management techniques.
- Lead case management activities including discharge planning, utilization review/management, and working with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans.
- Ensure infection control practices are followed rigorously; oversee laboratory experience and specimen processing procedures.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate medical records documentation; maintain compliance with NCQA standards.
- Provide staff training on medical terminology, anatomy/physiology knowledge, ICD-9/10 coding (including ICD coding), CPT coding for procedures like cardiac catheterization or ophthalmology services.
- Conduct patient triage in emergency situations; participate in acute pain management and complex diagnostic evaluations.
- Supervise nursing staff including nurse management responsibilities; foster team development through coaching on health coaching techniques and working with people with disabilities or developmental delays.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols; manage sterile techniques during procedures such as venipuncture or catheter care.
- Support specializations such as neonatal ventilator management or working with children in pediatric units; oversee family planning or occupational health initiatives as needed.
Skills
- Extensive clinical expertise in critical care environments including ICU experience and Level I/II trauma center experience.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth; familiarity with medical imaging and sonography is a plus.
- Strong leadership skills with supervising experience in diverse healthcare settings; ability to manage teams effectively while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology concepts related to airway management, gastric lavage, spinal taps; expertise in medication administration including injections.
- Skilled in diagnostic evaluation techniques including laboratory testing and radiology procedures; capable of performing or supervising complex procedures like cardiac catheterization or lumbar punctures.
- Excellent communication skills for patient assessment discussions; adept at triage protocols for emergency medicine scenarios.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations; experience working with EMR/EHR systems such as eClinicalWorks or Meditech is advantageous.
- Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments; commitment to infection control practices and aseptic techniques.
