About the Wardlaw School

The Wardlaw School is dedicated to serving children with average to superior intelligence and mild to moderate language-based learning disabilities, including dyslexia (reading disability). Children accepted into the Wardlaw School may exhibit underlying auditory and/or language processing difficulties that make it challenging for them to learn in their current educational setting. Our students range in age from 5 to 12 years old and are in kindergarten through 6th grade. Wardlaw School students typically have a diagnosis of dyslexia or "red flags" for the disorder. They may also have difficulty understanding and/or using spoken language, expressing themselves through written language, or experiencing difficulties with mathematics.

The Wardlaw School for children with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities is currently seeking an outstanding professional to serve as a classroom teacher in our multidisciplinary, collaborative educational environment.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:

  • A master's degree or commensurate experience in learning disabilities, reading, speech-language pathology, or special education from an accredited university.
  • Training in at least one multi-sensory reading method.
  • An ability to develop, plan, and implement curriculum using a variety of resources.
  • Experience with elementary-aged students.
  • Three exceptional references.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Design and implement a plan of instruction for a class of nine or ten children, each with the diagnosis of mild to moderate dyslexia or language-based learning disability. Instructional goals are derived from students' psycho-educational evaluations and diagnostic teaching.
  • Complete two written reports per school year and lead three parent-teacher conferences.
  • Support each student in your class as needed to secure other services provided by the school or by referral to outside sources.
  • Work within our Integrated Intervention Model to establish and implement appropriate language goals for each student within the class setting.
  • Engage parents as partners.
  • The position is full-time, on campus (5 days per week, 7:45-2:45)
