Swimming Instructor

Water Safety Instructor is a fun and meaningful job that's in high demand. If you're at least 16 years old, a proficient swimmer, and are an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) you can become part of the City of Louisville's aquatic's team

We are looking for instructors who can teach Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

• Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and level.
• Develop appropriate tools necessary to offer quality swim lessons.
• Provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in the use of support materials.
• Monitors participants and their ability to participate.
• Provides a safe environment for all participants.
• Enforces all pool rules and regulations
• Completes any necessary reports and forms, i.e., accident reports, report cards at the end of each session.
• Attends scheduled meetings as required.
• Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepares lesson plans, organizes relative equipment; may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction.
• Responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence.

• Must possess a WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
• Must be minimum 16 years of age.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Good leadership and teamwork skills.
• Excellent communication skills in dealing with youth as well as the parents of participants and co-workers.
• Patience and a positive attitude.
• Ability to provide leadership to participants with a self-confident attitude.
• Ability to respond well to emergency situations.
• Ability to deal tactfully with the public in resolving conflicts and the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.

OTHER NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:

• Candidates will be required to complete and pass any or all of the following: a pre-placement physical, substance screen, and/or a background investigation prior to employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance in and out of pool; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. Must have 20/20 vision or vision must be correctable with eyeglasses and/or contact lenses.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
