Automation Development and Improvement Engineer
to join our
MGS Germantown
team.
As an
Automation Development and Improvement Engineer
at MGS, you will help develop plans for the layout, flow, and implementation of incoming automation, ensures the Automation equipment (direct and indirect) are always available to produce Quality saleable product that meets customer validation standards and helps evaluate, define and implement long term continuous improvement initiatives for existing automation. This is accomplished by engaging resources to support the processes and investigate and eliminating downtime using tools such as preventive actions (activities and spare components), troubleshooting (controlled responses), and corrective actions (knowledge management).
Below Are Additional Duties And Responsibilities
- Update, maintain, and control scorecard and action logs that represents the scope of work for assigned daily huddle.
- Work with internal and external integrators to develop manufacturing plans for automated equipment.
- Perform value-stream mapping to aid production layout planning for automated equipment.
- Aid in the implementation and launch of new automated production equipment.
- Ensure the production readiness of a new automation cell or a continuous improvement upgrade.
- Run daily huddle with cross functional team (engineering, quality, maintenance, production, and SME's as needed) for automation equipment performance.
- Align reasons for performance gaps with known chronic issues where status of interim action are reviewed and confirmed or unknown new issues where further (immediate) actions are necessary to properly assess reason.
- Capture daily (informal), top 3 (most important), and parking lot (on hold, completed, or low priority) issues that prevent the automation from achieving their performance targets.
- Assign, follow up, and provide for updates (to dates) by cross functional team to issues (go see, top 3, and active) during the daily huddle activities.
- Convert short-term and long-term solutions to performance gaps to troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and spare parts management.
- Implement continuous improvement program (PLC, HMI, Servo, and other technological) and mechanical upgrades (implement changes).
- Develop, maintain, and utilize feedback sources (output, response, diagnostic, event) from cross functional teams to ensure feedback is current, relevant, and actionable.
- Generate, maintain, control, and communicate reports that accurately represent the performance of the automation equipment included in the scope of the daily huddle activity.
- Evaluate production/alarm data logs to verify if an interim or long-term solution had a positive or negative effect on machine output.
- Investigate root causes and implement a control plan for any damage seen to components or fully assembled product.
- Update, maintain, and control the technical user manuals for each automation cell, including process settings, preventative maintenance steps, troubleshooting guides, safety steps, and system mechanical and electrical documentation.
- Any other duties as assigned.

Required Experience
A qualified
Automation Development and Improvement Engineer
candidate would fulfill these requirements:
- A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 2-5 years of manufacturing experience.
- Continuous Improvement experience.
- Fork truck and Lock out Tag out Certification.
