Taylor County is currently seeking qualified applicants for Deputy Elections Clerk.
Job Summary: This position performs a variety of clerical procedures in the Elections Office. Will handle mail, files and correspondence; use spreadsheets and database to maintain records and to prepare reports. Will perform data entry and assist the team with all election activities including programming and building the official ballot for all elections with the understanding that there will be late night hours and weekends worked when needed.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
§ Perform data entry and task management with accuracy to maintain records in the voter registration system.
§ Assist new voters with applications, mail voter registration cards and other correspondence.
§ Interact with voters to update their records, candidates, other agencies and Secretary of State, as needed.
§ Assist in the preparation and programming of the official ballot for each election.
§ Assist in the preparation of election equipment, including lifting and carrying equipment, assisting poll workers in picking up and returning equipment, back up of election data, maintaining election records.
§ Perform various duties for the public testing of equipment, canvassing and recounts.
§ Assist in Early Voting and Election Day procedures in accordance with the Texas Election Code.
§ Assist in preparation for training of election workers and participate in training as needed.
§ Assist with the inventory of election supplies and make recommendations for additional supplies as needed.
§ Performs other clerical functions including copying, filing, posting information, and preparing supplies for polling places.
§ Answers the telephone, makes calls, and assists with inquiries regarding elections.
§ Perform physical tasks, such as moving and loading boxes and voting equipment, delivering and picking up supplies and equipment at the voting sites, connecting computers and other auxiliary components, etc.
§ Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
§ High School Diploma or equivalent.
§ Minimum one-year experience in general office work and clerical skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
§ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
§ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with the public, other employees and elected officials in a professional manner.
§ Ability to interpret and to apply rules, regulations and statutes to routine and non-routine situations.
§ Ability to make judgments regarding appropriate responses to moderately difficult questions or situations.
§ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and officials and with the public.
§ Ability to proofread for completeness, accuracy and content.
§ Attend all assigned and required Election Training.
§ The ability to work long hours during elections which may include weekends, holidays and evenings.
§ Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds; ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
§ Must be able to learn and retain procedures quickly and be adaptable.
§ Must have strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records.
§ Must be able to work under pressure and produce accurate work and meet established deadlines.
§ Must be mature, dependable, resourceful and able to work independently.
§ Must maintain strict level of confidentiality.
§ Excellent computer and data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy.
§ Possess a high level of integrity and self-motivation.
Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a plus but not required.
Starting Salary: $40,000 annually + benefits
