Heavy Wrecker Operator

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Wrecker Operator to join our team. This role involves operating heavy-duty tow trucks and recovery equipment to assist with vehicle recoveries, roadside assistance, and transportation of damaged or disabled vehicles. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to safety and customer service. Prior experience with automotive diagnostics, mechanical repair, and tow truck operations is highly desirable. The Heavy Wrecker Operator plays a vital role in ensuring efficient vehicle recovery operations while maintaining professionalism and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty tow trucks, including flatbed and wrecker units, to recover and transport vehicles safely and efficiently
• Perform automotive diagnostics and basic repairs as needed to assist with recovery operations
• Load and unload vehicles using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or winches
• Conduct routine inspections of towing equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance
• Manage conflict situations professionally when dealing with distressed customers or roadside incidents
• Maintain accurate logs of recovery activities, including details of vehicles recovered and services provided
• Adhere to all safety protocols and traffic laws during operation of tow trucks and related equipment
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and team members to coordinate recovery efforts

Qualifications

• Proven experience with automotive repair, diagnostics, or mechanic work is preferred
• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record; experience operating flatbed trucks, tow trucks, or similar heavy-duty vehicles required
• Mechanical knowledge related to vehicle systems and manual transmissions
• Ability to operate forklifts or other lifting equipment is a plus
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to manage conflict professionally
• Knowledge of automotive diagnostics, mechanical repair, and load/unload procedures
• Prior experience in commercial driving or heavy vehicle operation highly desirable
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and handle physically demanding tasks safely
