About the Role:
The General Mechanic I plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of mechanical equipment across our Pine Bluff mill. This position supports daily operations by performing preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance, minimizing downtime, and ensuring uninterrupted production. The role interacts closely with operations, reliability, engineering, and maintenance teams to support long-term asset health and operational excellence.
Pay Rate:
Starting at $33.18 per hour
What You're Going to Do:
- Perform routine, preventive, and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment throughout the plant.
- Respond to equipment failures and perform emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and rotating equipment.
- Apply and comply with all applicable codes, regulations, OEM standards, and Suzano safety/environmental procedures.
- Support daily maintenance activities, planned shutdowns, long-term planning, and capital projects.
- Contribute to reliability programs, including lubrication, vibration analysis, and ultrasound inspections.
- Perform precision mechanical work such as:
- Cutting and welding various materials (pipe, plate, structural)
- Laser alignment
- Rigging
- Bearing installation and removal
- Coupling installation and removal
- Belt and chain maintenance
- Accurately complete required documentation and precision maintenance paperwork.
What We Expect from You:
- Two (2) years or more
as a General Mechanic in an industrial environment;
OR - A
two-year degree or higher
in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance
+ one (1) year
of industrial mechanical experience;
OR - Three (3) years or more
in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance (Millwright, Pipe Fitter, Welder, Machinist). - Ability to meet physical and safety requirements while working
12-hour shifts
, including holidays, overtime, and weekends. - Experience reading
blueprints, sketches, and schematics
. - Knowledge of mechanical hazards, safety procedures, and OSHA regulations.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing equipment such as
pumps, gearboxes, power & transmission systems, conveyors
, etc. - Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to work in harsh or hostile environments.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
- Experience using a
Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
. - High school diploma or GED.
Desired Qualifications:
• Strong computer skills.
• Experience with SAP and other CMMS platforms.
• Experience collaborating with Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians.
• Hydraulics experience.
• Pneumatics experience.
• Paper mill experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 lbs or more on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand or walk frequently for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders/stairs/scaffolding and perform bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements such as grasping, operating tools, and machine work.
- Ability to move between confined spaces, variable surfaces, and different areas within the mill.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures, weather conditions, and environments.
