Summary:
Abrasive Form is a world leader in high precision Aerospace and Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) machining. We manufacture turbine blades and vanes for many of the largest gas turbine manufactures and militaries around the world. We use high precision CNC milling, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and 3 and 5-axis creep feed and CBN grinding.
The Operations Supervisor leads a team of CNC, Milling, 5 axis, 3 axis, EDM and Radius & Prep operators in a nonunion aerospace facility, which may flex between two facilities in Bloomingdale and Glendale Heights, IL. The position has critical areas of responsibility for delivering throughput in the operation to meet our increasing customer demand by planning and managing production. This role partners with cross-functional departments to communicate operations status, issues, and improvements. A successful candidate will be a self-starter, serves as a coach and mentor, committed to safety for self and the team, hungry to learn and make improvement, a high standard for quality and process compliance, and a team player.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the activities of the shift to ensure productivity, quality, on-time delivery, and profitability goals are met.
- Assist the Operations Manager in physically managing the customer's parts and all relevant information that is collected and processed during the production cycle.
- Motivate, coach, mentor and lead employees to deliver high performance. Address opportunities for improvement, which may involve difficult performance conversations.
- Communicate regularly with leadership any problems or issues occurring in production, people or quality.
- Actively evaluate and make recommendations for improvements to jobs to maximize profitability and throughput.
- Train the employees on processes, policies and procedures to build highly skilled operators.
- Troubleshoot machine/job problems to determine the issues. Communicate with maintenance for resolution.
- Lead by example and embody safety programs and processes to create a safety culture.
- Drive high quality through all operational processes by determining root causes, eliminating process issues, and being accountable to results.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year manufacturing experience in tight tolerance production.
- Minimum 3 years CNC experience with 5 axis and/or 3 axis and surface grinding required.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage and coach employees, administer discipline and manage employee performance.
- Strong math skills to solve problems demonstrated through assessment during hiring process.
- Must be able to measure parts within tight tolerances.
- Must be able to read indicators and use measuring tools such as caliper, micrometer, gauges.
- Ability to identify complex problems, evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Ability to read directions, prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure they meet specifications.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English for customer, job and equipment specifications.
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
- Must be able to use a computer, Microsoft Office and programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferred.
- Military experience a plus.
- 4 years CNC experience preferred.
- 3 years of experience EDM or wire/electrode EDM, preferred.
- 5S standards experience preferred.
- Prior experience working in aerospace manufacturing industry.
Physical Demands
Talking, hearing and using hands to operate machining equipment. Ability to load parts into a machine at or above waist height. Must be able to lift and carry at least 25lbs frequently and on occasion up to 50lbs. Must be able to work on your feet in a manufacturing environment. Physical ability to do work requiring frequent lifting, twisting, standing, stooping and bending. Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications.
Working Environment
Usual manufacturing environment with temperature fluctuations, noise from and interactions with equipment, and safety standards of PPE and practices required.
