Referral Coordinator

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Referral Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing patient referrals, verifying insurance information, and ensuring smooth communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies. This role requires a strong understanding of medical office procedures, medical terminology, and managed care processes. The Referral Coordinator plays a vital role in facilitating efficient patient care coordination while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Manage and process patient referrals efficiently, ensuring timely approval and scheduling.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including insurance verification for various managed care plans.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation related to referrals and insurance information.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation such as CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding details.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
• Assist in coordinating appointments and follow-up communications with patients and providers.
• Update and maintain referral tracking systems and databases for accuracy and completeness.
• Communicate effectively with insurance companies regarding pre-authorizations or claim issues related to referrals.
• Support the billing department with accurate coding information for insurance claims processing.

Experience

• Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of managed care processes, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10), and medical terminology is highly desirable.
• Experience with medical records management and insurance verification is advantageous.
• Familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards is essential.
