Job Description Senior Piping Engineer Overview

Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager - Senior Piping Engineering will work in on piping and feeder related work providing support to major new build projects in nuclear field.

This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently and providing instruction to other engineers and develop his/her career and experience in nuclear field.

Your role
  • Perform engineering work in accordance with AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs and all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and interface with clients, suppliers, stakeholders, and internal design disciplines to execute assigned engineering tasks
  • Participate in conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of CANDU/nuclear process systems and plant modifications.
  • Prepare piping designs, including pipe sizing, equipment layouts, and pipe support designs, using tools such as S3D, Navisworks, and SmartPlant Review.
  • Conduct engineering analyses and computations using ANSYS (APDL/Workbench), LS-DYNA, and other relevant software.
  • Perform pipe stress evaluations and thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear, and non‑linear analyses in accordance with ASME Section III, Div.1.
  • Prepare and review key technical documentation, including drawings, calculations, specifications, design reports, TSSA registration packages, and supplier technical evaluations.
  • Lead or support engineering teams as required, provide technical guidance, resolve engineering issues promptly, and deliver assigned scope within budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
About you
  • Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited university (or PEO‑recognized equivalent) and registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering experience in heavy industrial sectors (e.g., mining, oil & gas, power). Nuclear experience, site work (construction/commissioning), and familiarity with nuclear-class systems (Class 1, 2, 3, 6) are strong assets.
  • Required proficiency in piping stress analysis using PepS, with additional experience in ANSYS Mechanical (APDL preffered/Workbench), LS-DYNA, and mechanical/piping systems design—CANDU knowledge is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA B51, CSA N289, ASME Section III, and other applicable standards for pressure boundary and reactor system components; qualification or eligibility for ASME Appendix XXIII is an asset.
  • Design engineering experience in nuclear class 1, 2, 3 and 6 piping systems, valves, pumps and for Nuclear Power Plants is an asset.
  • Must have extensive working knowledge of mechanical and piping systems or equipment (knowledge of CANDU nuclear systems would be an asset).
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to resolve technical issues, excellent communication and technical writing skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and willingness to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
