Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting physicians and providers with patient care including obtaining history, chief complaint, assisting with biopsies and select surgery procedures.Other responsibilities include patient education on treatment plans and medication, nursing procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, allergen patch testing, and completion of pathology and lab requisition documents.

Reports To:Site MA Lead and to the Clinical MA Lead

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times.Obtains short medical history as required by the patient's chief complaint. Obtains or updates medication list if necessary.Sets up exam room according to scheduled procedure or anticipates physician and provider needs if non-scheduled procedure is likely.
  • Assists physicians and providers with biopsies and surgical procedures such as excisions, ED&C, cryo-therapy, etc.
  • Educates patient as required after physician/provider establishes treatment plan.Ensures that the patient understands the treatment plan, understands proper use of their medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.
  • Straightens and cleans exam rooms after patient visits.
  • Assists with procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, and allergen patch testing.
  • Completely and correctly fills out all required pathology and laboratory requisition documents for patients as required by physician/provider. Provides clinical staff with all completed documents for data entry into the biopsy book.
  • Stocks exam rooms.
  • Performs all duties related to medical instrument cleaning and sterilization.
  • Notifies clinical staff of supplies needed to avoid shortages.
  • Identifies patients with special needs and shows care and compassion.
  • Enters accurate information in EHR programs for follow-up appointment scheduling.
  • Communicates and interacts with all departments effectively and professionally.
  • Evaluates chart data to verify all information has been received, completed, is correct.
  • Obtain and assemble documentation necessary for the release of medical records.
  • Follows all HIPAA, compliance, privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Maintains an organized and clean work area.
  • Takes calls and answers messages from patients regarding treatment questions.
  • Communicates service delays to all involved (including the patient).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:

The above knowledge, skills and abilities may be demonstrated by a high school diploma or equivalent and experience working in a medical office environment or completion of a certified Medical Assistant training program.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $ $20.00 per hour
