About the Position:
This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
The Manager, Risk & Insurance (HR Title: Insurance Risk Specialist II) reports to the Director of Risk Management & Insurance and is responsible for managing the Workers' Compensation Program, Auto/SCUV Program, and the Certificates of Insurance Program, as well as maintaining the RMIS system. This role ensures that claims intake and processing practices align with compliance requirements and support the institution's overall risk management objectives.
Essential Functions:
- Manage Workers' Compensation Program. Receive, process and file Workers' Compensation claims with carrier. Coordinate Return to Work program. Main point of contact for workplace injuries, claims and investigation.
- Manage Auto/SCUV program. Receive and process auto claims and file with carrier as needed. Manage auto training compliance, oversee MVR checks. Reconcile Auto/SCUV inventory.
- Manage and maintain data within the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) related to insurance, claims, property schedules and other data as needed.
- Implement and manage Certificates of Insurance and Bond Programs. Oversee coordination of current vendors, bond holders, Certificates of Insurance and bond renewals.
- Support insurance renewal activities, including data collection and updates for schedules of values and exposures.
- Receive and provide administrative coordination for general liability and property claims, including first-party and third-party incidents.
- Compile loss runs and contribute to internal operational reports related to insurance, claims and loss control programs.
- Assist in verifying insurance compliance with university contract requirements.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's is required.
A minimum of 3 years of experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.
Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
Response to potential incidents may be required at any time. This individual may be called in during the day, night, weekends, or even while on vacation—though such occurrences are rare.
Ability to manage time effectively, generate and present appropriate metrics and reports, and maintain accurate and complete records for compliance is essential.
Prior experience with workers compensation, auto, property and general liability claims management is required.
Knowledge of insurance policy management, processing and tracking of claims, and associated finances is required.
Ability to give informative and compelling presentations is required.
Workers' Compensation Adjuster License, ARM, AIC, or related certifications preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint for presentations and training, is required.
Experience with database management software is preferred.
