Your Opportunity

The Whitehorse office is seeking an Architectural Technologist to join our multi-disciplinary Architecture and Engineering practice. You'll work under the guidance of a Senior Designer or Architect, contributing to schematic design, space programming, site planning, and the development of architectural details. Sustainable design and creative problem-solving are at the heart of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret sketches, drawings, codes, and building programs.
  • Support the project team in preparing design documentation.
  • Develop designs using sketches, models (physical/electronic), diagrams, and massing studies.
  • Utilize BIM technologies for 3D modeling of buildings and components.
  • Travel to northern communities for construction reviews or building condition assessments.
  • Research materials and building systems.
  • Conceptualize building designs balancing technical and aesthetic requirements with client needs and budgets.
  • Participate in design critiques and internal presentations.
  • Develop building technology and systems within cost parameters.
  • Prepare space planning and adjacency diagrams.
  • Assist in building condition assessment reports.
  • Evaluate and select building systems and materials for compatibility with design intent.
  • Integrate sustainable design principles.
  • Contribute to project pursuit opportunities.
  • Analyze sites considering geotechnical, environmental, social, and economic factors.
  • Maintain design intent throughout documentation and construction.
Qualifications

Capabilities & Credentials

  • Solid understanding of Revit, AutoCAD, and other design tools.
  • Preferred proficiency in Sketch-Up, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Effective hand sketching and concept communication.
  • Ability to produce photorealistic renderings (Enscape, Twinmotion, Lumion, etc.).
  • Collaborative team player with creative and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of building construction systems, materials, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with accessibility, building, and life-safety codes.
  • Understanding of the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Technical diploma in Building or Architectural Technology (or equivalent).
  • 8+ years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Office-based work with potential for hybrid arrangements; fieldwork may involve exposure to weather.

Typical office environment working with computers. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
